An Ode to Daphne Rye

Founded by the legendary theatre agent Daphne Rye, who famously discovered Richard Burton, Daphne’s quickly became a hotspot for film and theatre stars in the Sixties. With its unique blend of warmth and Italian sophistication, Daphne’s has remained a cherished institution, evolving over time while staying true to its roots.

The restaurant’s character reflects that of its founder, the vivacious casting director Daphne Rye, who famously discovered Richard Burton. Daphne adored people and was loved in turn for her ready laugh, exceptional taste and fabulous parties. Her powers of attraction lured the leading lights of stage and screen to her restaurant when it opened in 1964, at the height of Chelsea’s Sixties heyday.
